This is our team of guides that will take you out onto the land of Peawanuck. Peawanuck, Ontario is approximately 35 kms from the Hudson Bay Coastline with breathtaking views, wild animals and an adventure for everyone.

Owner Operator and Experienced Guide

Matthew Gull

Matthew has spent the vast majority of his life exploring and living off the land in Peawanuck and the Hudson Bay Lowlands. At a very young age he lived solely off the land with his Mooshum (Grandfather) Antoine Gull who taught Matthew much of what he knows and still practises today. Matthew's parents Moses and late Maggie Gull also spent vast amounts of time teaching their son how to hunt, fish, gather wood, and trap. Matthew is a knowledge keeper, storyteller and is bilingual in both English and Cree.

Tara Sloss

Tara Gull moved to Peawanuck in the fall of 2018, the home community of her husband Matthew Gull. Tara fell instantly in love with the people of Peawanuck and the land. She enjoys spending time out on the land exploring, hunting and fishing, but most importantly learning. Originally from Mattagami First Nation, Tara grew up with a a single mother. Tara is always looking for her next outdoor adventure in Peawanuck and the Hudson Bay Lowlands.

Certified Experienced Guide

Mike 'Moose'  Koostachin

Moose has spent most of his life growing up in Winisk, then Peawanuck, Ontario. Moose is an avid hunter and fisherman. Whether it be winter, spring, summer or fall Moose can be found out on the land to provide food for family, friends and the community of Peawanuck. A carpenter by trade, Moose has not only built homes in the community he has built cabins on the Hudson Bay Coastline and other rivers/lakes.
Moose is an amazing teacher when it comes to beginner or experienced level outdoor enthusiasts wanting to experience and learn the ways of the land. Moose is also fluent in both Cree and English.

Certified Experienced Guide

Marcel Metat

Marcel Metat was born and raised on the Winisk River, a community member of Peawnuck. He has been maintaining his way of life by living off the land.
Marcel is an avid hunter and fisherman. As part of a team or on his own Marcel is always up for an adventure.
Marcel grew up with his siblings learning the ways of the land from their parents and relatives, from hunting, and fishing to gathering traditional berries and medicines such as tundra bush tea, labrador tea, cloud berries and blueberries. Marcel has a vast knowledge of the land surrounding Peawanuck, and the Hudson Bay Lowlands.
Marcel is also fluent in Cree and English.

Everything You Need To Know

Gooseberry Tourism Hunting and fishing guides are located in Peawanuck Ontario. We offer guided trips to Polar Bear Provincial Park, Gooseberry Brook and the Hudson Bay Coast. There are also other lakes and rivers that can be negotiated within the Hudson Bay lowlands.

Our Guided Packages Include:

 

Transportation (via boat, snow machine and/or argo).

Camp

Fuel/oil

One to two guides with over 50+ years experience

B&B provided while in town

What you need to bring:

 

Your own flights to and from Peawanuck.

A valid Ontario fishing licence.

Chest or hip waders

Fishing rod and tackle

Outdoor clothing (ie rain wear, hat)

Photography gear

Sleeping bag
